This is a short heart wrenching novel about a couple who were burned out of their home during a bombing in WW2 England. They had lost their 3 year old daughter to diptheria prior to this--it was Christmas Eve and they were homeless.
Jack left his wife sitting out in the freezing cold to see if he could find a place for them to spend the night. He found what appeared to be a deserted mansion-went back got his wife. They were somewhat settling in when a young boy entered the kitchen. His Mom had left to get something and never returned!
This story has an amazingly happy ending that makes you beleive in miracles!
