A person can get addicted to many things and for many reasons. It can happen without the person even knowing it at first-until it is too late. Even law inforcement types can get addicted as the charactor in this novel did. He really wanted to make a lot of money to give his wife a good life--but it got out of hand--way out of hand. He was so in debt that ther person he owed the money to was threatening him.
Luckily as Marty was doing an appraisal things started happening-Carl was helping her appraise the books when a note fell out of one of the books. The police force went all out to protect one of their own and stop a multi operations gang in the process. Patronm one of Marty's dog was instrumental in getting the number 1 bad guy!
All ended up fine in the end--and Patron was made a member of the police force!
About the Book: (from Amazon)
It seemed like any other routine appraisal. But that was before Marty found out about the theft, the illegal gambling and other questionable activities, and then there was the note in the book. A note that resulted in twenty police officers putting their lives on the line to arrest those responsible.
When Marty’s hired to do an appraisal at a storage unit and the residence of the wife of a Palm Springs detective, she had no reason to think that there would be a problem with it.
The appraisal looked pretty run-of-mill with its small antique items and furniture, but that was before Marty discovered that all of the antiques she’d appraised in the storage unit had been stolen. And then several hours later her friend, Carl, who was appraising the antique books at the client’s residence, found the note. The note that caused an all-points bulletin to be issued for a man who was going to be murdered.
When Marty’s client decided to stay at a spa for a few days while the appraisal was taking place, a spa for a total mind, body, and spirit rejuvenation, who knew that meant she wouldn’t be able to be contacted. But when her husband is about to be murdered, rejuvenation is no longer an issue, locating him and saving his life takes precedence.
And Marty had no idea that Patron, her psychic boxer guard dog, would end up on the Palm Springs police force. But since he’d saved her husband Jeff’s life, she’d be the first to say that Patron deserved it!

I would have to know a whole lot more information about what was going on before I got involved.

Yes without a doubt - I have lived by the adage that no good deed goes unpunished - if someone was in trouble for helping others I would stand by them - support them and also get them more help.
I would like to think I would help anyone in need, especially someone who is wrongly convicted.
Yes I would help if I could.
Yes I would help. I myself have gotten in trouble for what I thought were the right reasons.
Yes, I would try to help them and I hope they would help me if I needed it.
Yes I do and would try to help if I could.
I was raised to always help where I can so I always try to.
I was taught to help when and where you can, and I would like to think I do that, so yes I would help and try to get them more help
I certainly would if I could.
I would help if I could, or get them help if I couldn't.
