The most expensive home repair has been the windows. There is a point when the windows become so old and leaky that you have to replace them, and that is not just a single window. That is what made it the most expensive repair in our house.

ReplyDeleteThis is a hard question. I've lived in this house for 3 years and so far we've leveled & replaced the hardwood floors ($3,000), replaced all of the appliances in the kitchen, replaced all of the trim (door, window & baseboards), repainted every room including the ceilings & trim, installed new ceiling fans/lights in every room, completed a full remodel of both bathrooms (new toilets, tubs, vanities, tile floors, etc), added a closet organizer to the master bedroom walk-in closet ($800), replaced the HVAC system ($10,000), fenced in the backyard ($3,000), replaced a retaining wall ($8,000) and added new stone patios to the front & back of the house (landscaper included this for free as part of the retaining wall). So far, it looks like the HVAC install was the most expensive. This summer we are planning on replacing all of the windows and remodeling the kitchen. We did all the work ourselves to save money - except for the HVAC install & retaining wall/stone patios since those are out of our skill level.
