This one will have you going for the tissues. Maude and Edgar were best friends like forever. When Maude's parents died she was devastated and Edgar helped her through it. She received a letter from her Aunt and agreed to go stay with her. Think Cinderella. Edgar went off to war (the civil war) and was caught. The captain in charge was abusive and Edgar was one of only a few who survived. However he had what we now call a severe case of PTSD. He returned home but could not overcome all that had happened to him.
Maude was miserable and when she received a note that Edgar was alive and well and wanted to marry her--she went back to the small town to be with him. It took a lot of love and patience--and a guy who was with Edgar in the camp--and outlaws trying to take away their home---
All I will say is Karma is never far and Karma shows up! There is a very happy ending!!
About the Book: (from Amazon)
After the loss of her parents, Maude turned to her best friend, Edgar, for comfort. But as the Civil War swept across the United States, the two friends were forced apart.
Upon his return home, having been held as a prisoner of war, Edgar struggles immensely to reintegrate into normal society.
He asks Maude to marry him, hoping she will be able to help him heal. The two reunite after several years apart, but things aren’t easy. They struggle to manage their marriage and a new homestead, while confronting their past traumas together.
When the Confederate soldier who held Edgar captive leads a gang into their town, Edgar will be forced to face his past. But will he be able to? Or will it break his new marriage apart?
