When four people who are members of the bookclub all receive blackmail letters--they try to not tell anyone. But one of the other members finally gets one of the women to tell Brigid. Then others admit to getting blackmail letters at their front doors as well. If they didn't give the person $3,000 then he would disclose secrets that they had kept hidden for various reasons.
Brigid sets out to try and find the person without the help of the sheriff since none of these people wanted him involved! She talks to all of them individually to see if there is anything that might connect them. Nothing---
Brigid must have been getting whoever it was nervous because then she received a letter--only hers said to bud out!! Which of course made her try even harder! Finally a friend of one of the people came around and said she had also gotten a letter--but she knew who the culprit was!!
They had to get the sheriff involved at this point--what they found will make you shudder! And yes, there was a thread that connected all these people!
All I am going to say is thank heavens for BIG dogs--he ultimately saved the day!!
About the Book: (from Amazon)
Have you ever been blackmailed?
How would you feel if you were?
We all have secrets we don’t want others to know about. Several members of the book club did. But how did someone find out about those secrets? The blackmailer demanded $3,000 from each of them, Or the secrets they’d carefully kept would become public knowledge.
When several members of Brigid’s book club are threatened with blackmail and ask her to help them, she can’t refuse. Their secrets are too private to be exposed, so she tries to handle the case on her own, without any help from the sheriff.
Her family isn’t so sure she should get involved. The blackmailing case and her marriage are on a collision course, and she doesn’t know what the right thing is to do.
And then Brigid gets a demand from the blackmailer.
