Fun Scavenger Hunt in Amherst, NY!

Kids love kabobs! Make fruit kabobs with fruits like strawberries, grapes, pineapples, melons, bananas and more. They will also eat their veggies when we add some peppers and chicken to a skewer and grill it. You can even add some cold cuts, lettuce, and tomatoes to a stick and make a sandwich on a stick. They think it is really fun.Let them help:
Every time you meal plan, let your kids help plan and prepare a meal. When they are invested and excited about their accomplishment, they will make sure to clean their plate.Sneak it in:
Find recipes that include healthy vegetables that you can purée into meals like cauliflower and okra. You can also substitute oil for unsweet applesauce or yogurt.Be the example:
Have healthier options in your home to snack on instead of chips and cookies. When your kids see you snacking on carrots and broccoli - they may want to try it. By not buying any junk food.
I started them young and never had to fight to get them to eat what was served.
For the most part, I have never had a problem with this. We introduced healthy foods when they were little and kept them in place as they have grown. Once in a while we have hit a little blip where they started to back off of them. We would change out to other healthy foods and then bring them back in slowly and it worked so I just more saw it as they got tired of certain ones.
By example. My kids are served the same healthy foods I make for my husband and myself and they are required to at least try a bite of it. If they don't like it they don't have to eat it but a lot of the times they end up liking it and continue to eat it.
By making snacks that are healthier
Introducing them to healthier foods!
Our first is on the way, so we haven't had to yet.
My little one isn't eating solid foods yet so I've never had to try to get healthy foods incorporated in the diet.
We give them fruit instead of junk food and they love it.
I make them eat a lot of fruits instead of sugary snacks.
I try to hide the healthy food. Like on a grilled cheese I tried califlower instead of bread and she loves it!
I've learned that my kids will eat pretty much what I eat as long as I make it look good and colorful! Fun shapes always help! NIcole Bowers
no dessert until you eat your veggies
My parents would tell us, " Children in China are hungry and they would be happy to eat their veggies". I do the cooking so there is meat, veggie and some kind of potato on the plate. And a fruit as a snack.
I started mine early and we talk about eating healthy to become strong and grow to be like the Hulk or his Dad.
Just by setting a good example and explaining the "whys" on why some things are more moderated by others. Establish good habits young and all that.
We give my nephew options that he enjoys. If he cannot stand a particular vegetable, we don’t make him eat it, as long as he’s tried it. Even though making another side for him is an extra step, it allows for us to know that he’s getting in his nutrients and a balanced meal.
Only buy healthy options...
I like using cookie cutters to make healthy foods look cute & fun.
I cut all their food into pig shapes lol
Not having the junk around and replacing that with already cut fruits and veggies seems to work.
The grandkids know they have to eat good stuff before they can have a treat. We hide all the bad stuff. LOL
I try not to have soda or chips when they are here.
My granddaughter used to be so good about eating healthy. Now she's in aftercare and they give her things like Moon Pies despite my DIL having a fit about it, and her tastes are changing for the worst. When she's with grandma, I always tell her, 'remember when you did...' and go into a story about how she LOVED to eat such good food, and we laugh... and then she mimics that behavior and is like, 'grandma watch me eat this piece of broccoli!' So far, so good. I'm hoping it holds out. ;)
My kids are full grown, so no problem getting them to eat veggies.
