I don't know about you but I think I have used almost every type of can opener there is from Electric , battery powered electric to ones with thick handles and every other one inbetween. I still prefer the good old fashioned metal manual ones
Not too long ago my old fashioned can opener bit the dust--I picked up another one at a store--It ended up being defective---I was in a different store with my Mom this time and we could not find the one I wanted. She suggested I get what she currently uses.
BIG mistake----If I was able to get it to work--then I would have trouble removing the top from the appliance until I remembered that I had to push the button again to make it STOP!! I am so not mechanically inclined!! I spend a lot of time in grocery stores looking for cans that have pull top lids (Thank heavens my cat's food has those or she would never get to eat on time!)
I was in the grocery store and saw one that is more like what I want--it does have some rubber on it but not too much. I have yet to use it and am praying that it is not defective---
This looks like the one that I am having to discard unfortunately--

Its hard to tell if it heavy duty or not. My mom has had one for a long time. I ended up buying one after messing with the cheap ones first.
I too, think I have messed with every kind between home and camping. The electric plug in ones act differently on different sized (heights) cans. They also don't last long and seem to get stuck in the midst of opening a can. The metal ones hurt my hands. Some of the stainless ones with padded handles I have liked, some not so much. My favorite was a stainless padded handle one that was sent to me from Bush's Baked Beans years ago. It was free including 2 free cans of their original baked beans. When I realized it was gone for good I tried so hard to find another like that at no avail.
