I am primarily a book reviewer as most of you know. I do not accept payment for reviewing the books that are sent free of charge to me by the author or the publishers. Some of the these ask me to put up giveaways which I also do free of charge. Yes, I do put up a lot of giveaways as well--but mostly the ones where I am helping others promote. I had to stop putting up too many of my own or those where I contributed to the prize. Finances are tight. I am not complaining--just stating fact.
As a semi retired bookkeeper I KNOW how to create budgets--but the truth of the matter is--you can not stick to a budget if you don't have much money (no matter what anyone else tells you!!) You can attempt to stop using credit cards (if it is possible--for example you may still need them for food or medicine occasionally). Just try to pay even $5.00 more every month then the required payment. If you have more then one credit card--just stop using one of them and slowly pay that one off. DO NOT kick yourself in the butt if you can't--but do try to pay at least the minimum every month.
IGNORE those letters you get in the mail (I get 2 or three a week)saying you can refinance with them POSSIBLY and save money every month----READ the really fine print----I did!! What I want to know is how the heck do they know how much I owe--they seen to offer the correct amount each time!! Besides if you are really in trouble and need help desperately go to a legitimate debt elimination service--they can be found on the internet or one of your credit card companies will tell you the name of one. If you do decide to go to one know that they do charge a small monthly fee and please make sure they can handle the credit cards in your possession. They will negotiate with your credit card companies and see if they can reduce the amount owed or at the very least get the interest stopped. You will then send them the monthly payment plus the fee and they will send the payment to those you owe. One word of advice--If you have a credit card where the payments are up to date--do not give this one to them. Keep paying that one on your own--you never know when an emergency will happen!!
STAY away from get rich quick schemes (I get 3 or more phone calls a week!). If you don't have the money to start to pay down your debt then you don't have the money to throw away! It is possible to monetize your blog without spending money! Just make sure that you won't be charged for a website etc, or have to purchase a certain amount each month. Admittedly I don't have much luck but at least I'm not paying for the privilege. If you look at my sidebars and way down at the bottom under my signature and disclosure--you will see what I have. NONE of them are pay per click which means you can go in and browse but I won't get paid unless you purchase something. (commissions tend to be very small). Most of mine come from shareasale.com ,Pepperjam and Linkshare--and Amazon (which I am still trying to figure out) and Target.

I know all about debt. Now that it is gone I have such relief. I also don't have the convenience of a vehicle. I use public transportation bus, taxi's and my adult son walks. I also have an amazing daughter that will take us to out of town appointments or grocery shopping. Being free of credit card debt feels wonderful. I appreciate your advice. I do wish I would have saved one card for medical or spontaneous unplanned events.
