$20 Amazon/PP-1-WW-(Children's)-The Valley Forge Dog- Ruth Zavitsanos-Ends 2/22

Sunday, February 12, 2017

This book is geared for elementary age children--but I have to admit I enjoyed it thoroughly!! Anyone who loves dogs or historical fiction will!! Obviously it took me no time at all to read--but it is a chapter book with some really nice illustrations.

This book revolves around that last winter at Valley Forge as seen through the eyes and imagination of a current day boy who just got back from a school trip to Valley Forge. It explores the hardships that were endured. It also describes the absolute love of a boy and his dog as they fight for survival.

At the end of the book there are true facts which makes this the perfect book for schools, homeschools, libraries and anyone who wants to get their children interested in the history of the United States.

The author has decided to have a giveaway, to end on February 22nd at midnight. In case you don't know (and I had to look it up) that is George Washington's birthday!! One lucky winner age 18 or over who lives somewhere in this world will get either a $20 Amazon Gift Card or a $20 PayPal (their choice)

About the Book: (from Amazon)

While wintering at Valley Forge, the Continental Army, under the leadership of General George Washington, is greatly weakened by the bitter cold, lack of supplies, disease, treachery and starvation. Young Will, who plays the fife, and his faithful Coonhound companion Clay, struggle alongside those managing to survive in ragged clothing and miserable conditions. Only by leaning on each other are they able to endure the harsh days and shivering nights that test all of their strength and determination vital in their quest for liberty.

My son and I are going to Valley Forge next Saturday for the annual Boy Scout pilgrimage. We went last year as well. It was super cold, but I guess he enjoyed it enough and wants to go back this year. I think The Valley Forge Dog would be of most interest to my son and I since it is about a place we have been together. The Villa Dog also sounds intriguing.

Sounds like a fun and easy read regardless if it is geared for elementary aged children they can be entertaining and interesting for adults! I once picked up an elementary version of Moby Dick at the Dollar Store for a short flight to keep me occupied and I enjoyed it thoroughly as it short and sweet and finished right before the wheels touched down at my destination.

This one, Valley Forge absolutely. I found my interest in history very late, I don't want that for my grandchhildren. I wouldn't mind the you read a page, I'll read a page at all. My second choice would be The Villa Dog (Italian setting.)
