This book will definitely keep you reading, no doubt about it. There is a lot of violence, some warranted--some not. James Pruitt is the Sheriff in this small Wyoming town and when a murderous Mexican cartel ends up "picking on and occasionally murdering" several town residents--all because LOTS of money was lost in a plane crash--James has to revert to his Vietnam Days mind set to save the town and to prove that the people of Wyoming can not be terrorized!! Then it becomes personal---I didn't really expect the ending, but then in a way I did. This is the second book in this series. I did not read the first one and it can definitely be read as a stand alone. That doesn't mean I am not going to go back and get the first in the series. This is a seriously great writer!!
About the Book: (From Amazon)
Money Land is the sequel to the bestselling and riveting, Blood Land, that introduced the Sheriff James Pruett Mystery/Thriller series. Big crime has come literally crashing down on the small town of Wind River, Wyoming.
When a small plane bound for the Canadian border carrying money for the Sustantivo Cartel smashes into the glacial Wind River Mountains, the event brings a heartless evil presence to one of the more remote places on earth.
The tail of the plane is discovered, empty. No drugs. No money. Shortly afterward, people start dying. When the cartel comes to town, Pruett will do anything within his power to save his town, his people, the land, and his family. Anything.
Once again in the sparse, gritty, starkly poetic styling of James Lee Burke, Tony Hillerman, and John D. MacDonald, R.S. Guthrie brings you his classic hero, James Pruett, at odds against the Sustantivo drug cartel, his own friends and citizens, and federal agencies that have agendas beyond those printed on their Mission Statements.

I think my husband would really enjoy this book since he spent time in the military. The violence probably won't faze him that much.
This sounds really interesting but I'm wondering if it is too much for me. I don't mind a few murders but the blood nd guts descriptions aren't for me. I'm going to read the chapter above. I hope these books I keep putting on my list come in paperbacks to cus I just gotta have a book no electronic reading here.
I love how he stands up for what is right! This sounds like a good story!
This read sounds interesting for sure. I love thrillers like this one and would probably read the first book in the series before reading this one. My sister would probably like this one too. Thanks for sharing.
I know you said it could be a stand-alone, but it would drive me nuts knowing I had missed one previously!
I like some form of violence but not cartels of any kind. This might not be the book for me but it does sound intriguing. My husband likes books like these so I will have to pass it on to him.
Sounds like a mix between a good ol' western and some modern-day intrigue!
Oh it sounds like there are some intense moments. Might be a good movie one day.
Great review. It looks like there is some pretty intense plots in this book.
I like the details that you provide about the book, and it really helps me know if this is a book I want to read.
This sounds like a great summer read. I think my husband would be interested in reading this one too.

Money Island sounds like a pretty intriguing book. My husband would probably be really interested in it!
My hubby is a military man, so I think he would love this book!
Sounds really intriguing! I will look into it!
This is my kind of book. Modern but still has the flavor of the old west. I will have to read this.
This sounds similar to a book I just read but instead of a plane crash it was drugs. It was a total nail bitter that kept you guessing and then had that surprise twist. I have to get this one next!
Thank you for sharing your review of Money Land! I will have to add this one to my To Read list!
I don't think that I've ever read any of his books but this one sounds like one that I would love to read. Thanks for the great review as usual
