Book Review-Dead Centre II: Even The Wrong Can Be Right Sometimes! -Owen Jones

Having read the first book in this series Dead Centre: Not All Suicide Bombers Are Religious! (see my review here) I was very happy when I was approached to read this one.

Most of us are conditioned to think of suicide bombers as being the bad guys from groups such as ISIS and Al Quada. But what would happen if one of our friendly governments decided to use clandestine methods to take down terrorist groups? What if they used expats who were wanted but not really by the government. This is decidedly an interesting look at what might happen (or has it actually happened-which we will NEVER know for sure) when a British and an American embassy are decimated by who they think may be Islamic terrorists in Bankok, Thailand. It also delves into the mindset of the Thai people, mostly the ladies, who have fled the countryside to earn money in the cities.

This novel will definitely get you to thinking what really goes on or could go on behind closed government doors!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Four exceedingly large explosions destroy two important institutions in Bangkok without warning. Everybody in both buildings is killed, but none of the likely candidates claims responsibility.

The British and American governments have an interest and the Royal Thai Police Force begins its own investigations, but they all show scant regard for each other's inquiries. Cooperation is minimal.

This means that the British have to get a team on the spot... a team that is experienced enough to get the job done with hardly any assistance, since they have no-one available. A team skilled in the use of unconventional methods.

As the top brass is wondering how they are going to tackle this awkward situation, a member of the SAS, one of Britain's most elite fighting units, remembers seeing Gareg, Bob and Dave in an old-fashioned teak hotel on Koh Samui on his way back from a mission, so an agent from MI6 is sent to investigate.

This is a fast-moving thriller set in Bangkok, Koh Samui and the Thai-Malaysian rainforests in Thailand's troubled south, reviving memories of the Irish Question and Separatism in the Seventies and Eighties.

About the Author: (from Amazon)

Owen Jones was born in Barry, South Wales, where he lived until going to Portsmouth to study Russian at 18. After finishing his degree, he moved to s'Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands where he lived for ten years.

At 32, Owen moved back to Barry to work with in his family's construction company, first as a painter and then as a director, or, as the bank once corrected him, a painter and decorator. He was also office manager for ten years.

At the age of 50 Owen moved to Thailand to live with a Thai girl that he met while there on holiday. He married the woman and now lives in her village of birth in remote northern Thailand.

As Owen puts it: 'Born in the Land of Song, living in the Land of Smiles'.

I have a real problem with all the conspiracy theories that float around. About the corrupt police, our government etc Maybe because I emotionally hide from anything that frightens me, as a way to protect my anxiety/panic disorder. I am not sure although, I do know stuff like this must go on or how would we (US) have the information in a quick second when something comes up. I really want to read this book, maybe on a calm (emotionally) day. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Michele,

Thanks for the time and effort you put into this review, I really appreciate it.

All the best,
Owen

Hi Gladys,

Michele is right in what she says in her review, but this is not about conspiracy theory.
More, it is an example of a govt, using any means at its disposal during a difficult time.

Regards,
Owen

I don't know that I want to know what really goes on inside the government. Sometimes being oblivious is best.

That looks like another great read. I am going to look into that one.

Oh wow. I think this is something half my fb friends need to look at... They see suicide bombers and terrorist attacks as a certain religion thing ONLY and it is infuriating.

You made me think and yeah, what if? It might happen or already happened but who knows.

As much as I love our country, I think it would be foolish to believe that our government only deals in sunshine and rainbows to get answers they seek. This does sound like a book that would really get the mind working!

I'm so glad that I'm not part of the government. I prefer to be left in the dark about some things. We watch shows like 24 and Alias, and it makes me so glad to be ignorant of the goings-on behind the scenes.

It's hard to understand what is really going on in the world sometimes. Books like this almost hit a bit too close to home sometimes.

This sounds like an interesting book indeed and I guess I will have to read the first one in the series as well. Thanks for sharing. There is so much stuff people don't know about and never will know the truth either.
