Book Review-Rebel Queen-Michelle Moran

This book is based on historical fact. The author outlines what has been changed in her prologue. England was really into colonization at one point in history and as George Bernard Shaw in 1897 according to a front piece in the book says:

"Every Englishman is born with a certain miraculous power that makes him master of the world. When he wants a thing, he never tells himself that he wants it. He waits patiently until there comes into his mind, no one knows how, a burning conviction that it is his moral and religious duty to conquer those who have got the thing he wants."

This is the story of India and the people, both villagers and high born leaders. There is one leader who is a female warrior and she breaks purdah for herself and 10 warrior females, carefully chosen to protect her. It is also the story of one of those chosen and how her life and the life of her family is changed forever by the invasion. The British have decided that they want India and will do anything to annex it.

This is a well written and thoughtful book, one I would recommend any person who likes historical novels with the ring of truth. I certainly enjoyed reading it. Remember history so that it does not happen again!

Michelle Moran was born in southern California. After attending Pomona College, she earned a Masters Degree from the Claremont Graduate University. During her six years as a public high school teacher, Michelle used her summers to travel around the world, and it was her experiences as a volunteer on archaeological digs that inspired her to write historical fiction.
