This is the second book in this series I read. The first is When Camels Fly. You can read my review of it here.
Maggie Madison has done it again. She has been abducted! All because of a paper she was about to deliver on a possible water source under the Middle East that was referenced in the Bible and by the Reformationist Luther. Grace-who is the Mom who talks to herself a lot (but who could blame her) immediately sends a call to arms to her family. Jeff, the brother who just happens to be on his honeymoon and her husband who swears he is going to get Maggie and keep her home on the ranch! Maggie manages to extricate herself and meet up with her family but just has to find the last piece of the puzzle that will prove her theory. Mom is still mumbling to herself. Grace's old professor gets in on the act then he and his octogenarian twin disappear! More mumbling from Grace. As they travel from Paris to Rome and other countries intrigue follows (with more mumbling from Grace). Meanwhile two of their companions are vying for Maggie--should Grace get involved? When Mark (Dad) literally rides to the rescue and everyone thinks the real troublemaker is dead-----------You and I both will have to wait for the third in this series!

A friend's deception. A family's dilemma.
While cataloguing looted antiquities in Brussels, archaeologist Grace Madison discovers that her daughter has vanished in France, and her son's bride has been attacked in Switzerland. After the Madisons unearth a relic whose taproot pierces the Ancient Near East, they realize that before they can save themselves, they must rescue an old friend. If he'll let them.
They sacrifice hearts and lives in a race against eternity on a four-thousand-year-old trail crossing three continents.
Because choosing what's right is all that's left.
Praise for When Camels Fly (Parched Series Book I):
"Page-turning international suspense--this writer is on her way up."-DiAnn Mills, Christie Award winning author"An exciting novel of suspense, intrigue, and mystery. Very nicely done."-Paul Johnson, Readers' Favorites
"It's obvious from the writing that the author has spent time here."-Ellis Shuman, Times of Israel
"The book was fantastic, and nearly impossible to set down. Highly recommended."-Kathryn Bennett, Readers' Favorites
"A unique, totally out in left field, never been told story. I love that."-Every Free Chance Blog
Advance Praise for My Brothers Keepers:
"The Brothers' Keepers, book 2 in the Parched series, delivers masterful international suspense driven by contemporary family dynamics. Light the late-night oil because you won't want to put this book down."-DiAnn Mills, Christy Award Winner"I thought Horton peaked with her first novel, When Camels Fly. I'll admit, I was wrong. The Brothers' Keepers is magnificent! The main characters from her first novel are beautifully developed in this sequel.
This is a more accessible novel than When Camels Fly mainly because of the location -- Europe. She incorporates the history of the places her characters visit, and she weaves an incredibly feasible story around these events. The story is as complex as When Camels Fly, a good thing that requires close reading, but it is well worth the effort.
I highly recommend reading When Camels Fly before this one and continuing journeying with the Madison family!-Leigh Bennett, Reader
"I am once again became enthralled by the exploits of an intelligent, older woman and her family whom I first got to meet in When Camels Fly. It's so rare to find a heroine that the more mature amongst us can relate to on some level. I look forward to learning more about Grace, Mark, Maggie, Jeff and Becca as they become embroiled in yet another adventure after Maggie goes missing and an attempt is apparently made on Becca's life whilst she and Jeff are honeymooning in Switzerland."-Anne Rogers, Reader

Thanks so much for sharing The Brothers' Keepers with your followers, and I am so glad you are continuing the journey with Grace Madison and me. I chuckled at your citing Grace talking to herself because I have written about 20 percent of the third book, and Grace still is . . . mumbling. However, it's not because of Maggie this time!
I appreciate you, and look forward to reading your thoughts about book 3.
Best to you in 2015,
NLBH
Well, it's evident that you love to read. It's sounds really interesting, and it's kind of like a movie that you hate that it's the end, and it goes on with another series, which is totally awesome. I'm not much of a reader myself, but if I was that would be the kind of books I read. Something in a series like this. Thanks for sharing.
Hmm, sounds like an interesting book! I love reading books that have a series, because i know if I enjoy the first one I will likely continue to enjoy the series. Thanks!
Sounds like a great book with a whole lot going on! I haven't read these books but they will definitely go on the need to read list.
Sounds like a tangled web of mysteries. I prefer reading a book that doesn't have a hanging/mind-guessing ending .
Another great book - I have read the first but not the second yet. I am definitely looking forward to reading it now.
I like mysteries and thriller type books personally. This one sounds like a nail bitter!
I myself don't get into religious-themed books, but my wife sure does. Seeing the reviews, I'll have to mention it to her.
Abduction stories definitely scare me - but this one sounds like a great read! Will check back for your feelings on the rest of the series. :)
The story lines look interesting and it's nice to follow the story. I'll try to check if we have this in our local bookstore.
For some reason this sounds like a book I read before but I'm sure I haven't. I think I'll have to pick this one up and add it to my list. Sounds interesting and my kind of book.
This definitely sounds interesting, I'm always looking for some good new books to read. I guess I should start with the first one though.
Another great book review. Thanks again! These are always great!
Sounds like a really great book!!! Might just have to add it to my reading list!!
I am not familiar wit the author but I do love the sound of this book and I am very intrigued. I am more of romance novel reader but occasionally dabble.
Oh to I wish I had time to read a great book but when it comes to it I'm to tired and read 3 pages and fall asleep LOL. Love your reviews!
Ladies and Gents! Wow. I thank you for all these comments! To respond to a few of them . . .
Yes! It's a cliffhanger. But then, so is life.
Yes! There's a religious theme, but one of the best compliments I'm getting (other than readers wanting to be my protagonist) is that it's not preachy. Religious history weaves in and out of the book, but it is NOT Christian fiction.
Yes! There's an abduction. But brains and a sense of humor go a long way toward escaping from a sarcophagus.
Yes! You might not be familiar with the author, but then again, sometimes I'm not, either. Even though I AM the author.
And yes! You should read When Camels Fly, book 1, first. Not because I'm trying to sell two books, but because you need to get to know archaeologist Grace Madison there.
And finally, YES! I have scored a BookBub giveaway for When Camels Fly February 12th, and you will be able to pick it up on Amazon for $0.99! The Brothers' Keepers has been selected by Amazon for a special the first week of February, so save your pennies now, and buy both next month.
Thank you all for your comments, and I hope to see your thoughts in my Amazon reviews.
Best to you!

That looks like a great book that will keep you in suspense. I love when books come in a series too.
Thanks for taking part in the tour! I'm glad you enjoyed 'The Brothers' Keepers' so much! I love your review, including all the mumbling. LOL! You made me flash back to the movie 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'.
Yes I so love to read as does my husband - and have often suggest he do a blog similar to yours! Of course, his choices are different - beautifully shared and interesting that the author posted here also - that's just amazing :)
There is a lot to take in on this one. I love that the story is full of twists and changes. Sounds like a fun series!
The author sounds fantastic. I also love a quick read. Sounds overall like a really good book.

"A modern day Elizabeth Peters."
Wow. A girl can dream, can't she?
(Thank you.)
I don't think this book is probably lighthearted but your review has me amused. Sounds like a page-turner
Thank you for writing such a great review. I can tell from your words that your genuinely love these books and the characters!
You always give the best book reviews. I'm a big fan of mysteries. This is going on my list for sure!
Kids have a way of making you mumble to yourself. ;) It does sound like a good read!
This is an interesting abduction story. It is like more than watching a movie. My sister is a book addict and she prefers to read a novel than a movie.
I love your reviews because I instantly know if the book is something I would enjoy. his is definitely up my alley and I'm already hooked.
This definitely sounds like a great read! Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like an amazing book! Love all the info on the other books as well, placed them on my list to check them out!
I read this book a few months back. Sadly, I didn't read the first one so I felt a little lost in some part. Overall, good book though.
Hey, Chrystal! I appreciate you bringing up the option of reading the first book, When Camels Fly, first. The literary agent and I are learning how to position these works, and one of the biggest lessons is the need to read the series in order, if at all possible.
We think readers enjoy reading the Parched series in order partially because of protagonist, since a contemporary female protagonist in international suspense is a bit of an oddity.
Thank you for mentioning your thought regarding reading order. Best to you!

Sounds exciting! I love this genre of book. I wish I had more time to read!
Wow...sounds like such a captivating series! My husband would love these.
Sounds like a great read! I am adding it to my list!
I don't read too many fiction stories because I usually can't get into them, but this sounds like something I may be able to.
This sounds like, not only, such a great book but a great series as well. I can't wait to read the two already out and the third as well.
This sounds like a great book to read It sounds really interesting. and I am going to have to read the first one too. Thanks for sharing.
That definitely sounds like it would be a gripping story!
Sounds like a really interesting, gripping story. I love when books really capture you and entice you to keep reading.
I have a love-hate relationship with books that are in a series; I love knowing I have more to read and that the stories will be in-depth, but then I hate when the series ends. This sounds like a great book to add to my must read series - after Ive read the first, too!
Sara-Jayne, I so know what you mean about a series ending. But to encourage you, I'm in my fifties. So as long as there is archaeology and water war in exotic places, I'll still be writing about archaeologist Grace Madison.

Oh awesome another great story I need to add to my growing reading list! Thanks for the great reads!
This sounds like a good read. I am going to have to tell my mom about it.
Sounds like this one would really be interesting.I enjoy reading. I haven't read any of these but may one day.
Thanks for this helpful review. Interesting book and will recommend this to a friend.
Another cool series to check out! Thanks for sharing!
