This is the second in the series the Ancestor Series of Adventure-Thrillers. It really did hold my attention and made me groan when I was left with a major cliff hanger at the end! Definitely a five star read. Although this can be read as a stand alone I kind of wish I had read the first in the series before this one-there are a couple of references to it in passing--of course that one probably would have had me wanting more NOW as well!!
A giant rift has opened in Iceland. Of course the scientific community is right there hopefully under the auspices of the UN since it seems a lot of other countries and government agencies want their hand in as well. Who will get final conntrol and what exactly is that "flying saucer" doing buried under the ice?
About the Book: (from Amazon)
A COMBOQUAKE RAKES THE MID-ATLANTIC RIDGE. A FIFTEEN MILE RIFT RIPS ACROSS AN ICELANDIC ICE CAP. A DISSECTED CAVE HOLDS MYSTERIOUS ANCIENT TECHNOLOGY. John Henry Morgan, ex-Marine, Director of the United Nation’s Institute for the Study of Unusual Phenomena, returns from the devastating attack on ISUP’s Mountain project in Belize only to be cast into the aftermath of the Comboquake and the dangers of the rift. Morgan and key ISUP staff mount an expedition to the rift and discover a cavern occupied one hundred and eighty thousand years ago, containing a perfectly preserved high-tech habitat and a traveling machine operated by unknown scientific principles. The benign scientific expedition to study the cave and its contents encounters deceit and violence as nations and terrorist groups ferret out the existence and significance of the discoveries, and mount sophisticated operations to acquire technological treasures for their own purposes. ISUP finds itself at the convergence of clandestine assault from several fronts. Violence escalates. Lives become expendable -- a scenario that has plagued the human race through the chronicles of time. Frantic action: Prague, London, New York, Washington, D.C., Libya, France, Spain, China, Iceland. Across oceans and air lanes, factions grapple for power. Survival for the ISUP scientists and preservation of new technologies for the benefit of humanity lie in choices of whom to trust.

Pretty sure I'd be VERY hesitant to want to chip a flying saucer out of the ice. Just thinking about it makes me edgy. Sounds like it'd be a very great material for a movie too. :)
A book that will keep you on the edge--sounds good!!!
This looks like something my dad would enjoy. I'll look it up for him. Sorry about the cliffhanger! ;)
I love a good cliffhanger! Hoping my dad would enjoy this book. He always feels left out in the book world!
I do love a good cliff-hanger! This reminds me of that movie "The Day After Tomorrow", when everything is frozen over LOL

I always get so frustrated with cliffhangers. I think this is why I always wait for a series to be complete before reading them lol. Sounds very interesting!
This sounds amazing. I love this type of movie. End of the world type scenarios are always fascinating.
