$15 Amazon GC (3 winners)-The Last Letter-Kathleen Shoop-Ends 8/3

How do I begin to describe a story that gripped me and tore at my heartstrings. The Last Letter by Kathleen Shoop did just that. This is the story of a woman whose life was changed utterly from perfect to gruesome in a very short period of time. Her name disgraced by actions taken by her father and partially by her husband she was forced to leave a life of privilege and make a go of it in a hovel dug into the side of a mountain on the prairie.

They had neighbors who helped each other out but her husband lived in the clouds. When she gave birth to a premature baby she did everything possible to keep that child alive. Her four children were her life. When her first born died in a freak snow storm attempting to warn his philandering father she fell apart. Katherine who really did not know the whole story was bitter for a reason you will have to read the book to find out, and as an adult hated her mother, although they used to be very close.

When Katherine's husband forces her to take in her dying mother and her sister she fights it--until she begins to read the letters her Mom has kept all these years.

You will need a box of tissues-I can't say more because it will give away what happened and happens at the end. This is one of those books that will probably stay with me for a very long time. Yes, 5 Stars.

A Father’s Deceit

A Husband’s Betrayal

A Loved One’s Death

A Mother’s Choice

A Daughter’s Resentment

A Time to Forgive

For every daughter who thinks she knows her mother’s story…

Katherine wouldn’t have believed it if she hadn’t found the last letter…

Katherine Arthur’s dying mother arrives on her doorstep, forcing her to relive a past she wanted to forget. When Katherine was young, the Arthur family had been affluent city dwellers until shame sent them running for the prairie, into the unknown. Taking her family, including young Katherine, to live off the land was the last thing Jeanie Arthur had wanted, but she would do her best to make a go of it. For Jeanie’s husband Frank it had been a world of opportunity. Dreaming, lazy Frank. But, it was a society of uncertainty — a domain of natural disasters, temptation, hatred, even death.

Ten-year-old Katherine had loved her mother fiercely, put her trust in her completely, but when there was no other choice, and Jeanie resorted to extreme measures on the prairie to save her family, she tore Katherine’s world apart. Now, seventeen years later, Katherine has found the truth — she has discovered the last letter. After years of anger, can Katherine find it in her heart to understand why her mother made the decisions that changed them all? Can she forgive and finally begin to heal before it’s too late?

You got my interest piqued. I find the brief info of the storyline you share very intriguing that I am left wondering on what happened next. I am not much of a novel fan but once in a while, I do indulge myself in some serious novel-reading. This can be one of those books that will move me.
