I found myself lost a lot of the time in this book-I felt like the character Mike, Lucia's partner in the police department. He was no good at higher mathematics and neither am I!! This novel is filled to the brim with doublespeak and I found I really had to pay attention to get the gist of what Lucia was trying to get at! It took me a while but I was finally able to master it.
As for the storyline-it is actually quite good. It is all about a truly sick killer who can not get caught. Lucia is used to catching the bad guys really quickly but this one--well between the leaks from her own department and the rhymes and riddles the killer keeps sending her--Lucia is positive the killer is using some kind of mathematical formula or progression but can't quite get a handle on it. She enlists the aid of her uncle (a mathematical genius) and he does put together many of the pieces. Of course he is also targeted by the killer, luckily only ends up with a slashed cheek.
Truthfully I did not guess who this sick psycho was and was really surprised! No way will I give away the ending of this book-you will just have to get through it yourself!
About the Book: (from Author Promo material)
A killer is on the loose. Each homicide mocks Lucia and her understudy Mike in their effort to catch him. They quickly conclude that this is no ordinary criminal, but a person possessed with an urge to kill using bizarre, perpetually changing methods and leaving little evidence, let alone a definable signature. With the killer running loose and reaping havoc, it is a race agaist time to stop the reign of terror. Lucia and Mike find themselves having to invent unorthodox detective techniques at every turn.
This thriller takes readers on a frighteningly realistic look in the mind of a psychpath. The plot includes linguistic quirks, Alice-in-Wonderland rhetorical devices, cynical notes sent by e-mail and frequent allusions to cultural conventions, literature, philosophy, math, geometry and physics. All this, for the purpose of portraying Mike and Lucia's effort to outsmart the killer's ironic, riddle and paradox laden traps set for them.

About the Author: (from Author Promo Materials)
As a professor at Purdue University I wrote thirty two books for specialists in my area, Latin American studies and communication theory (semiotics). After retiring in 2011, I decided to try my hand at writing fiction. I recently published a book mixing fact and fiction about poor Afro-Brazilians in the city of Salvador, Brazil, and the first novel of a trilogy, Finding Himself:From New Mexico to the Sierra Madre and Back. Looking Glass Killer is the second volume. The third volume will be completed within a couple of months. I have plans for trying my luck at scifi set in the rugged backlands of northwestern Mexico.
I am now residing in Las Cruces, New Mexico with my wife, Araceli.

I really don't know what to think of this book. I give you some major kudos for sticking with it even though you were lost a lot of the time in the book. I know that if I got lost more than a few times in a book I would probably just give up on it and have no idea how it ends.
I love that you are so honest in your reviews and because of it, I think I really get a good idea of what I would and wouldn't like. I prefer easy reads, so this one might not be for me :)
I do love a good thriller book--but I don't like to feel lost.
Great review! I am fan of thrillersand this one sounds interesting.
I love surprise endings. Congrats to the author on keeping the reader guessing!
Serial killer books are exciting as you anticipate the next murder but hoping they get caught!
I do love a good Thriller :). I think I would really like Lucia character and would enjoy reading this book.
I think this one would be one for hubbie, he loves a good crime/thriller x
We are fond of thriller/crime books. I am tempted by your struggles -- something to stretch the mental muscles sounds like a perfect addition to the reading list for summer vacation. Nothing better than getting lost deep in a book!
Thanks for your honesty! I’m glad the story line was good - that’s kind of cool given the complexity of the reading. Great critique for the writer!
This sounds like a great read! Adding it to my must reads list!
Sounds like a good read but a bit confusing. I dont know if I would be able to get through the whole thing.
I was never good in Math at school. So, I will so NOT get what Lucia is up to lol.. but the story sounds quite interesting :)
That title alone caught my attention this one is a must read for sure.
I love a good book! I just wish I had more time to read. It is so hard to find extra quiet time with three little kids. But there is nothing better than a nice hot bubble bath with a good book and a glass of wine!
Sounds like a great book! I hope I don't get lost in the mathematical clues like Lucia and Mike as I'm not very fond of math at all. Thanks for the great review! :)
Sounds like a good thriller, I will pass it on to my hubby.
I love thrillers like this! A bit like The Criminal Minds. This sounds like something you wouldn't be able to put down!
Like a suspense and mystery in one! I love James Patterson's books, so I bet I would like this one, too!
I really trust your reviews because of your honesty but I think in the end you can still get something from a book,e ven if you get a bit lost.
