This is the 3rd book in the Cassie Scott series. If you have not seen my reviews or the guest posts that Christine Amsden has written for Miki's Hope then click in the links below.
Cassie Scott-Paranormal Detective (Book 1 w/trailer)
Secrets and Lies (Book 2 with 1st chapter reveal)
Judging a Book by its Cover: Reflections on the Cassie Scot Cover (Christine Amsden's 1st Guest post on Miki's Hope)
Guest Post-The World is Full of Blank Pages (her most current guest post on Miki's Hope)
This is definitely a series you should read in order. It takes off seamlessly from the prior book and the ending--well has you wanting that book immediately if not sooner! Cassie is still heartbroken over the way Evan just seemed to drop her and is now living with two of her friends in an apartment. A new guy comes into her life, Matthew, but he is not all he seems to be. Meanwhile there is a preacher in town who is really on a witch hunt! Cassie is working with the Sheriffs department to try and find out why people are dying or are they being murdered?
Cassie finds herself in this book, she also finds out some truths about herself that she was never told! Another book I finished in one sitting--and I can honestly say that I love the way this author writes! Of course she is darn good at leaving you hanging at the end too-------5 Star for sure!
About the book: (from Author Promo Material)
Beware your heart and soul…
Evan broke Cassie’s heart two months ago, and she still doesn’t know why. She throws herself into family, friends and her new job at the sheriff’s department, but nothing helps. The only thing that finally allows her heal and move on is the love of a new man, mind mage Matthew Blair. Cassie finds him…irresistible.
Matthew may also be the only one who can help keep the non-magical residents of Eagle Rock from going crazy over the murder of a beloved pastor’s wife. It looks like a sorcerer is to blame, but while Cassie tries to figure out who, others take matters into their own hands. With tensions running so hot, a single spark might set Eagle Rock ablaze.
Praise for the Cassie Scot Series
From Publisher’s Weekly:
“Amsden continues the story of the only mundane member of a supernaturally-gifted family in this middling sequel to Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective. Cassie, stubborn and proud, is bravely trying to live on her own after her family disowns her. Struggling to make ends meet, she accepts a case involving a pair of magical girls who disappeared from summer camp. With the aid of the
handsome Evan Blackwood, to whom Cassie is attracted despite her family’s disapproval and her own better judgment, she follows the trail of the missing girls. What she finds is a dark side of the magical world, and the hidden depths of her family’s past force her to reconsider long-held assumptions. The growing complexity of Cassie’s world makes this an entertaining installment,
focusing as much on the will-they, won’t-they romantic chemistry between Cassie and Evan as on the primary mystery. An inconclusive ending is clearly intended to feed into the next volume.”
Kim Falconer, bestselling author of The Spell of Rosette, Quantum Enchantment Series, had this to say: “When sorcerers call the shots, what’s a girl without powers to do? Get ready for a ripper of a murder mystery full of romance and intrigue, where magic potions bubble, passions spark and vampires are definitely not your friend. Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective grabs you by the heart and won’t let go until the very last page. Well written, immersive and unputdownable. This is urban fantasy at its best. More please!”
Read 1st Chapter here (Warning -there may be spoilers, you should probably check out the 1st 2 in this series first.)

I'd like to at times.. but not always.
I don't think I would like to read other people's minds. Who do you base your characters on?
Thanks so much for another wonderful review!
Lisa -- I don't consciously base my characters on anyone. I can't be sure about subconsciously, of course. :)
Hmm, I am not sure if I would like to read someones mind. Only if they were good thoughts and not evil!
I don't think I would like to read other people's minds.
I definitely would not want to read a person's mind. I think I'd hear more negative stuff, than positive ones. I wouldn't be able to handle that! :o)
I like anything with magic. This sounds a little creepy which is why I would probably like it! lol!
I wish I could read peoples minds, but then I would probably hear things I dont want to and that would be hard
This cover immediately draws one in, it looks interesting and dark. It also reminds me of a VC Andrews cover. I am going to go read that first chapter.
I would love to read someone's mind, although I might not like what they are thinking.
One sitting? That seriously must have been good!
I would like to read minds. but idk about at all times.
There are times I would love to be able to read minds but I'm sure it would be a curse at the same time. This series sounds fantastic for my reading at the pool this summer.
Wow! This book sounds very interesting! Reading minds, I kinda like that :)
It would be great if you have that ability. Nobody could hide from what they are thinking about you.
I've heard people say that you'd stop worrying what people thought about you if you ever realized how seldom they ever did. I'm sure that's true for me as I'm paranoid. :)
I've asked the question partly for research -- my telepath from Mind Games appears again, this time in his own point of view. So I'm asking people ... What would that be like? My gut instinct is that most of the things he hears people say have little to do with him and much, much more to do with themselves. :)
Thanks for stopping by, everyone! I'm super excited about this volume in the series. It's 3/4 of the way through now. One book left to launch and then I can honestly tell people that they can read the WHOLE series in one go if they want.
Yes I would really like to know what people think of me
Read other people's mind, I'm not sure. It's a double edge sword. Deb P
Reading someone's mind sounds great - but I sure as heck would not want people to read mine at times to know what I am really thinking. I bet I don't want to know what they are thinking of me either. (Shudder)
It would be nice to be able to understand people better by reading their minds, In particular, I have a son who is autistic and it is very hard to figure out what he is thinking sometimes and get very much out of him, I dearly wish I could have a real conversation with him sometimes.
What an intriguing and thrilling story of a book this is. And just the cover alone tells a story of what this book is going to be.... mysterious and thrilling. Anyway, thank you for sharing all of your book reviews. I should start reading this summer when I get the chance. Good luck, everyone!
This is the kind of story that I would loved to read! Will join in the giveaway. Thanks!
Seems like a very engaging book! I would love to read this. :)
Absolutely. I have always wanted to.
I would love to read someone Else's mind!
no
Yes! that would be awesome! :)
No, ignorance is bliss.
I would like to be able to read other peoples' minds - and that they wouldn't realize it. I think I could save myself from some pitfalls!!!
Yes, just in cases!
I would like to be able to read minds, but only if I could turn it on and off at will.
Do you have an agent, and how hard was it to get your first book published?
Reading minds sounds like a good idea but I'm sure we'd find out some things we would rather have not known.
I think it would be interesting to read peoples minds....and I would use it to go to Congress and do some housecleaning!.....lol
I think it would be interesting to be able to read people's minds.
I would want to read people's minds, as long as I could turn it off sometimes.
I am already psychic, but I would love to be more psychic!!
I am pretty intuitive , but yes I would like to have the "ability to read minds" I think I am pretty good right now though.
Yes I would like to be able to read people's minds
I think I would like to be able to read peoples minds. Sometimes I really want to know what makes people tic.
no don't want to read anyone's mind - regnod(at)yahoo(d0t)com
Not sure if I would like to read people's minds. I might see something I wish I didn't know like how they really felt about someone or something they planned to do that would hurt someone. Not sure.....tough question!
I wouldn't normally like to be able to read minds, but if I could turn it off and on at will, that might be okay.
I would love to be able to read people's minds. Of course there would be times when it would hurt to know what people really think, but I would like to know people's honest opinions and thoughts.
I am not sure I would like to read peoples minds maybe some but then there are the minds that just make you say hmmmm......
I think it would be both good and bad to be able to read someone's mind. You would never be able to be surprised, but then you don't have to spend time wondering either.
I don't think I would want to be able to read people's mind. At first I think it would be nice to know where someone stands on certain subjects BUT no one is free of criticizing or negative thoughts! It would make me paranoid and think everyone was out to get me! Haha!
I would not want to read other people's minds. Although there would be perks, I would not want others to read my mind. I have such flighting thoughts, that I would not want others to know. Therefore I too, should not have that invasion of privacy ability.
I don't want to be able to read my friends minds. It's an invasion of privacy.
"Do you have an agent, and how hard was it to get your first book published?"
I do not have an agent. Mind Games is my 5th published book, and my publisher, Twilight Times Books, has been a great partner from the start. They are a small, traditional press that often publishes cross-genre novels, or stories that don't seem to quite "fit" with a bigger press. They were a good fit for me, though! I discovered them after a year of trying to get my first book published and I'm glad I did.
Sometimes I really would like to read peoples minds. I might not like it but at times it could help you make decisions that would otherwise be very difficult. I would also like to read animals minds. I would love to know what our 2 dogs are thinking about us!!
I would like to read other people's minds.I'm not the kind of person to trust easily and this ability would help me a lot. :D
I don't think I would want to read other people's minds. That would be too weird.
No,I don't want to read other people's minds :D
Sometimes I would like to read someone's mind. But I would need to be able to turn it off, too.
I would love to read someone's mind occasionally but it will probably be hard I am constantly doing it. Thanks!
I don't need to read minds - It's more fun to guess.
In a way yes, but not really! I think we'd be too hurt sometimes.
It seems like it might be a really cool thing and also helpful in some situations, but I'm sure you'd find out things you wouldn't like!
I would love to read people's minds. And yes, I heard what you were thinking.
I dont think I would like to have that power...I just feel that while reading minds, I would definitely run across some thoughts that I just wouldn't like.
It might be fun once in awhile.
Oh the ability to read people's minds would be awesome! There are quite a few things I want to know.
I'm not sure I necessarily want to know what's going on inside everyone's heads. I'd hate to have all my thoughts exposed to someone else!
Good morning - thanks for the giveaway chance.
I don't think I would be interested in reading someone's mind - I am way to sensitive and there are things I just don't want to know lol
I would like to read someone's mind but it could be tough.
no,I don`t think I would like to read people s minds,,that would be too freaky..lol.;
(Karla Sceviour)
I really don't want to be able to read someone else's mind.
Oh yes. I could change the way the world!!
I would only want to read minds if I could do it selectively.
No, I don't think I would want to read other people's minds. It might come in handy once in a while, but over all I don't think that would be good at all.
I would like to read someone's mind only if I can choose not to.
MPaula
Yes, I would like to have this ability.
I would love to be able to read other people's minds. But only when I choose to. And not the mind's of those closest to me. Because sometimes it's better not to know.
In some ways i would love to read ppls minds and in others no..;)
Thats tough one...We all think we would like to read minds but i bet we would be shocked and angered at some of the minds we read.
Lori R Jackson
I'd only want that ability if I could also turn it off whenever I wanted.
I would like to have that ability to use when I wanted and if it was for a legitimate cause. If you could read minds constantly and without control you would be bombarded with too many thoughts...yours and others.
Kimberley Thomas: I would like to be able to move things with my mind !
No reading someone's mind, I like surprises.
Yes I would like to read peoples mind to see what they really think
I would like to be able to people's mind but at the same time I can see it being a problem.
Read minds? Handy playing poker, but aside from that I figure I would muck it up royal. No thanks. :)
I would love to read people's minds. It would be interesting! :)
I would love to be able to read my seven year old's mind as he is out playing. He has such an imagination.

No, I don't
There have been times I wanted to but on a regular basis and all of them without control, no. If I could read the mind I wanted to when I wanted to, maybe
!
Yes, most definitely. But I'd also like to be able to turn it off in case I didn't like it!
I would like to be able to read people's minds. It might be a good thing but then it might be sad to know what people really thought.
I don't think I would want to read anyone's mind. Some thoughts are better left to the owners of the thoughts
Can't wait to read the book!
Looks interesting
I would love to be able to read someone's mind so I would know if they were telling me the truth or not.
I think that would be great to be able to read someone's mind
I would love to read minds! No more figuring out what people want or what they're thinking!
Thanks for the giveaway! I don't want to read minds because some are dirty. ;)
I would like to be able to read people's minds sometimes... as long as I could hit rewind or erase if there was something I didn't need or want to know ;)

I would definitely not want to be able to read minds...way too complicated :)
I actually don't think I WANT to read anyone's mind! Who knows what thyey're thinking?! :)
I'd love to read minds. It would be especially valuable as a teacher because I'd know who's not getting it but is too shy to ask a question.

I would occasionally like to read someone's mind, lol
I have always wanted to be able to read minds! I'd love to know what people really are thinking!
No. We are not good people inside when not trying so I would not want to read anyone's mind.

blackasphodel(at)yahoo(dot)com
I would love to be able to read peoples minds, especially when trying to plan my dinner menu at home.
I would really like to be able to read another person's mind. Lovely way of telling if someone is actually telling the truth or not.
I'd like to be able to read my husband's mind - since he already thinks that I can and should! Lol.
I don't think I'd like to read someone's mind, because I think it more bad would come of it than good.
I'd rather prefer not have that ability! I'd go crazy of hearing so many thoughts at once! XD
I would love to read peoples mind because I would have one on everybody but I wouldn't want anyone to rad my mind.
i would like to be able to read people's minds so that i can differentiate those who are fake and those who actually care about me.
Honestly....I don't think I would want to be able to read someone elses mind. Maybe if I could turn it on and off.
Of course I would! -Hanna Lei
to read someone's mind? if it was selective maybe, but constantly would be mind-boggling.
I wouldn't mind the ability to read someone's mind when I want to. I'd use it mostly when unsure if a person is being troubled by something they won't talk about or lying. Definitely would prove to be helpful!
No, I wouldnt want to be able to read someones mind. I have a feeling I would be a lonely person, lol - Thank you, Mary Withrow

Once in a while but not all the time.
I would but only if I could control the ability.
If I could control when I could read someone's mind, yes. But it's not something I want to hear all the time.
I'd love to be able to read minds, IF i could control who I was listening to! I think I would like to just read minds when it could benefit me. I wouldn't want to hear everything everyone thinks!
Yes, there are times when I would love to read someone minds, especially animals minds.
No I don't think I will want to read someone's mind; sometimes it is better not to know what a person is actually thinking when he or she is with you.
Omg! I would love to read someone's mind.
Itwould be nice because ppl dont always say what's on there mind.
