Book Review - New Sion - Diana Green

Monday, December 9, 2013

This is a book which combines fantasy, science fiction and a little romance in a remarkably well balanced way. It is definitely suitable for your tween or teen to read and you will find yourself enjoying it as well.

In this fictitious novel a group of humans who believe in a religion which is highly restrictive decide to colonize a little known planet where they can live according to their beliefs. Of course they really have to learn how to make do with what is on this planet--strange food, even stranger animals! Unfortunately there is a group of "aliens" who have also made their way here and they are nothing but trouble.

Meanwhile the Krells in a galaxy far away are having their own troubles--a different alien race is trying to destroy them and to capture their princess. The princess and one of her protectors escapes. When the Princess is captured on New Sion and is taken prisoner--her protector, near the end of his endurance, manages to meet up with Finn & Eamon. The three become allies and traverse New Sion to find the hidden Krell community that no one else knew was there. I can't say too much more or I will give away the plot! I do give this a 5 Star rating and suggest you read it-then hand it over to your children!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Pretending to be a man isn’t easy. Finn Colville has pulled it off for years, but things get complicated when she falls for her new bounty hunting partner, Eamon Sullivan. On the planet New Sion, it’s against the law for a woman to wear pants and carry a gun, much less shoot people for a living. What will happen if Eamon discovers her secret?

On a backwater planet, at the edge of a galactic war, one man, one woman, and one desperate alien cross paths. Together they embark on the road trip of a lifetime, bound for revelation, and redemption.

Where do you find so much time to read ;)

This book sounds pretty interesting, but this one is right up my husband's alley. I may get it for him for Christmas actually.

Hmmmm pretending to be a man. Wasn't there a John Wayne movie where a young girl tried to pretend she was a boy? LOL now I am really showing my age.

I love to hear about books that I can read with my children. My teen daughter and I bond over a lot of the books we both enjoy. I will add this to my list! Thank you for the review!

That sounds like a strange combination for a book. I want to read it to see how it is all tied together.

This sounds like a totally different genre than I am used to reading, but very suspenseful. I like happy endings so hoping this has one.

I like that angle where the woman is pretending to be a man. A little of Joan of Arc in the mix. Great review, I would read this book!

I love the plot!! I would hate to have to hide my own identity but I can see why she needed to!

This actually is something exciting to read. Mixed of romance and the like - deeper knowing of its character too!

Falling for the guy certainly puts a crank in her gender pretending. :) Sounds like a fun/great read!

I'd love to experiment with a little scifi once in a while, so maybe I'd grab a copy for fun.

I don't read much sci-fi novels. I tend to skip them over. I'll probably do the same with this as well even though it does sound interesting. They never keep my attention for long. :)
