This is a story about the Depression years and how a young man and his friends manage to overcome the poverty that has plagued them most of their lives living in the Blue Ridge Mountains. A lot of the book is about life in the mountains and how it was lived and probably still is. It is a story about family and friends and the trust each and everyone of them puts in the Almighty-Church is one of the most important parts of their lives. It is also the story about how Moonshine pitted these staunch, truthful and honest men against terrible enemies. It is a long book-approx 600 pages but I can honestly say I was never bored. The ending left me in shock and possibly there will be a sequel--but maybe not--life goes on--5 Stars for this one!!

After traveling abroad, living over much of the United States, and serving in the US Air Force, he returned there to build a life on Gingercake Mountain with his wife, Jackie. The depression era fascinates me for some reason, so I think this would definitely be a great book to add to my reading list.
My Mom and Dad lived through the Depression years and had so many stories to tell. I would love reading this book.
I have only heard of stories from the depression from my mother, I would love to read this book, for some reason this is something I have been wanting to see more on and how they all survived.

One of my favorite childhood trips was through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Such beautiful country! Just wish I had more time to read. Problem is I get so caught up in the stories, I just can't put them down and next thing you know it is 3:00 a.m!
