Book Review - Dreamer – Daniel Quinn

Saturday, May 11, 2013

This is one of the few books I have read in my life that actually had me second guessing myself up until the very last page!! And I am still sitting here wondering!! Daniel Quinn is by far one of the best mystery/suspense/science fiction writers I have come across in a very long time! He takes you from reality to dreams back to reality to the point that not even you will know what is real or not!! And it is seamless-you won’t even realize the transition until after a while!! What a page turner!! 5 stars + for this one. Get it and read it-you will not be disappointed!

From the Back of the Book

Dream, nightmare, waking life—which was which?

Awake, Greg Donner falls in love with Ginny Winters, a beautiful woman with a mysterious past.

Asleep, Greg dreams of pursuing Ginny through a strangely altered and deserted Chicago.

Awake Richard Iles is imprisoned in a sanatorium in Kentucky—and trapped in a loveless marriage to Ginny Winters.

Asleep, Richard Iles dreams he is Greg Donner. And when he next awakes, he IS Greg Donner.

But Ginny is gone.

Terrified, not knowing when sleep will once again transform his life, Greg searches desperately for answers, for a key to reality.

But the demons of his nightmares are now stalking the waking world—unless, perhaps, he’s still asleep.

Reality truly is what you…dream it.

Biography

I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and studied at St. Louis University, the University of Vienna, and Loyola University of Chicago. I worked in Chicago-area publishing for twenty years before beginning work on the book for which I'm best known, Ishmael. This book was chosen from among some 2500 international entrants to win the half-million dollar 1991 Turner Tomorrow competition for a novel offering "creative and positive solutions to global problems." The novel has subsequently sold more than a million copies in English, is available in some thirty languages, and has been used in high schools and colleges worldwide in courses as varied as philosophy, geography, ecology, archaeology, history, biology, zoology, anthropology, political science, economics, and sociology. Subsequent works include Providence, The Story of B, My Ishmael: A Sequel, Beyond Civilization, After Dachau, The Holy, and most recently At Woomeroo, a collection of short stories. I can be found on Facebook, and my Web site, ishmael.org, is enormous, offering news and announcements from readers, suggested readings, speeches and essays available nowhere else, detailed answers to more than 500 questions asked by readers over the years, and a Guestbook with thousands of entries. I and my wife, Rennie, have lived in Chicago, Santa Fe and Madrid, New Mexico, and Austin, Texas. We currently live in Houston.

I am such a big baby, I can not read suspense books unless I can finish them in one sitting. Just like a little kid I have nightmares, lol.
