There are too many guns ending up in the hands of young people these days that for one reason or another think it is cool to take their parents legally owned guns and show them off to their friends. Or the child is so distraught that they think that pulling a gun on someone will make them more popular or that it will give them a sense of being in charge. That these guns go off unintentionally in the hands of these youngsters, sometimes hurting themselves and sometimes hurting others seems to be a fact of life these days. Then we have the people who have mental problems who somehow get their hands on their parents legally owned guns. These people don’t necessarily know what they are doing and can not be blamed—the gun owner should be! Heck, even Dick Cheney unintentionally shot someone on a hunting trip. And all those people who end up dead because illegal guns were used in an apartment next door—the bullets go through the walls. Unintentional, but death or a gun shot wound is tragic all the same.
So, to conclude, if you are going to own a gun of any type—please lock it up-in a place no one but you can find it and double lock it into a gun safe where you are the only one who knows the combination or where the key is.

Guns definitely need to be kept locked away from kids. They are too curious!
Yes we do and it is locked in a gun cabinet, in the very back of our closet!
I do agree, guns need to be kept safely locked away from kids. We have been wanting to get a couple of guns and the topic of our conversation is safety and how we are going to keep them put away, etc.
I totally agree! I do also think the laws ought to tightened and then maybe this would also make them easier to enforce? .. but who am I.
Great post :-)
My kids are hunters as well as my husband and myself. They were raised by the gun and know how to use them. If anyone ever broke into our home and threatened one of us, I would want a gun available and would trust either of my kids to protect my life with it 100%. They know where they are and what to do in any situation.
My husband owns a few guns and all of them are locked in our gun safe in an area of the house. Safety is definitely first, especially with our young daughter in the house now!
Totally. I can't imagine a kid thinking a real gun is a toy and.. I don't even want to think about it.
I do not own guns. I do agree that gun safety is so important. Locking it up seems the safe way to store a gun for sure.
thanks for sharing this great article
My husband is an avid hunter and is a member of the military so he practices shooting often. We have always exercised strict rules in our home regarding how they are stored. Both guns and ammo are locked up, separate from one another. When people do not practice responsibility with regard to gun ownership, they invite criticism and stricter gun control laws which take the right to bear arms away from everyone, including responsible gun owners, which is a shame.
