There are virtually 1000’s (or so it seems to me) places to buy ink for your printer. Each printer has its own numbered ink cartridge. The type of ink cartridge you can purchase runs from refurbished ink cartridges to brand spanking new ones direct from the manufacturers on most of these websites. Of course you can go direct to the manufacturer’s website as well-but that does tend to be slightly more expensive! So which one really works best and which one will work best for you?
I know at one of my jobs we used to buy refurbished ones—then switched back to the manufacturers brand because the colors were just not as distinct and we were using it for marketing. There was also the problem that I personally had once where the refurbished ink cartridge literally caused my printer to stop working forever—the printer was so gummed up with ink where it was not supposed to be that my printer stopped working—I did buy a new printer and used manufacturers ink from then on!!!
Well, my printer is not working once again-nothing to do with the ink this time-more to do with its useful life!! So here I go again looking for a printer. If laser printers weren’t so expensive I’d probably look into one of those—but ink jet it will have to be. Now call me crazy but I am tending to look at the price of the ink first because that is where the real cost comes in. So far I’ve looked at Hewlett Packard, Canon and Epson Ink----It is so very confusing that I will probably ask the IT guy where I work for some advice.
So, when you need or are just looking for a new printer-how do you go about it—printer first or ink first.

WE GO THRU A TON OF INK IN OUR HOME BECAUSE W/ HOMESCHOOLING I AM CONSTANTLY PRINTING THINGS FOR MY KIDS FOR SCHOOL. MY HUSBAND GETS OUR INK FREE FROM OFFICE DEPOT REWARDS.
I would truly save up for a laser printer with duplex printing. I also homeschool and use alot of ink and the duplex printer allows me to print over 7000 pages with a $60 "cartridge" almost the same as 2 cartridges from a regular printer with alot less pages. They are SSSSSOOOOOOOO worth the money and I would not go back. I only have a b&w laser but may buy color next time. I do have a regular color but since most of the printing can be b&w , it's best to go with a laser printer.
I definitely consider the cost of the ink and how often I will need to replace it before I buy a printer. It's almost as if it is completely backwards with printers, they are more disposable than the ink and the ink is more costly than the actual printer.
I find it impossible to choose ink for the computer!! I don't get what works best, so I just leave that decision for my boyfriend :D
I just bought ink for my printer....why is it so expensive!!! Epson is great!!
I can't find a good ink for my computer either. They are all too expensive or they do not work well at all!
We go through ink like crazy at my house.
I have no advice but use tons of ink here
I hate buying ink! I think they are all expensive and that is no fun!
We have been out of ink for a while because I'm so tired of buying it. Why does it have to be so expensive??
WE used to get our cartridges refilled but too out of the way for us now... we buy them in bulk but we are so lazy that we sit with an inkless printer for months before we get fed up and go buy some!
We have both a laser printer and an ink jet. I would love to purchase eco-friendly ink for the ink jet, but have yet to do a cost comparison. I would have to say that cost is the primary factor I look at when deciding which brand to buy. It seems that quality is pretty much comparable for all brands. I might check out Costco and just refill our cartridges.
