Although I did not find this book as "dark" as some I have read--it definitely brings out some disturbing attitudes which hopefully are not still present in the city portrayed!
Alex's family tree has a very strange genetic happening when they become teens. Prior to a happening which switched on this gene--Alex was like any other teen boy--sports oriented and great at anything he did. The girls all wanted to be his girlfriend! He was also a marvelous big brother who really tried to take care of his little sister. His Mom was mostly in a drunk stupor--and his father--well--Then came that fateful day when Alex came home to eat dinner with his sister---
All hell breaks loose---
And the gene is fully activated!!
Read this book to find out what happened!! I already have the rest of this series and will be reading and reviewing them!!
About the Book: (from Amazon)
Prelude is a prequel to Crescent City (An Alec Winters Series, Book 2). Get a behind-the-scenes look at sixteen-year-old Alec Winters, a New Orleans teen-jock, before his strange, supernatural transformation. Discover little-known facts about the cultural differences of the deep-south and a good-ole-boy society where 'right' is often seen as 'wrong' and the prevailing attitudes might surprise you. Learn how the Winters’ secret family conflict was instrumental in changing Alec’s life. Get an insider look at the previously concealed back-story before that fateful night when Alec was magically transformed into angel-demon, in this dark-fantasy thriller. Then, continue the series to read Alec’s controversial story as angel and demon on the gritty streets of New Orleans in Crescent City, to Mobile Alabama in Port City, and to Melbourne Florida in Harbor City, the last installment in this emotionally-triggered series. Not for the faint of heart, not recommended for those under the age of 17.

About the Author: (from Amazon)
Award-winning author, Chariss K. Walker, M.Msc., writes both fiction and nonfiction books with a metaphysical and spiritual component. Her fiction expresses a visionary/metaphysical message that illustrates growth in a character's consciousness while utilizing a paranormal aspect. Her nonfiction books share insight, hope, and inspiration. Even though Chariss writes dark-fiction about insanely dark topics, such as sexual abuse, incest, pedophilia, sexual assault, and other inappropriate dinner conversation, there is always an essential question of the abstract nature that gives a reader increasing awareness and perception. All of her books are sold worldwide in eBook, paperback, and many are in large print. Click the "follow" button to find out when new books are released. As the author of the books mentioned in these comments, let me say that I love to read your comments and thoughts. To each of you who has expressed interest in reading my books, thank you for your support.
Let me just say, that The Vision Chronicles series, is not a standalone series. If you are interested in reading a paranormal thriller with a dash of romance and family life, you will enjoy this series. However, that being said, you must begin with Kaleidoscope, Book 1 in the series and read them in order to get the most from the series. Kaleidoscope is currently free everywhere and you can get your free copy here: https://books2read.com/u/mdNjEE
Each book covers about 8 weeks in the life of this amazing man who sees visions of future events.
The same holds true for An Alec Winters Series. The first book, Prelude is free everywhere and you can get your free copy here: https://books2read.com/u/3Ro0yY
You can begin with Book 2, Crescent City, but in order to understand Alec's story, they must also be read in order.
And, again, the same holds true for A Serena McKay Crime Series. Blue Cadillac, Book 2 would not be a satisfying read unless you have read Purple Kitty, Book 1.
The continuation of the stories in all these series is the way the characters led me to write them.
Again, thank you so much for your interest. You can find out more about me and my books on my website: www.chariss.com
All the best,
Chariss
